Join us at our Kavanagh House 25th Anniversary Celebration, Aug. 11th, 9-11 a.m.!

Our Veteran-to-Veteran Program is a special service pairing veterans who are volunteers with patients who have served our country.  Veteran Partners provide companionship while talking, reading and sitting with patients.  Sometimes veterans feel most comfortable sharing their experiences with fellow veterans.  Veterans have a unique skill set which can help patients come to terms with past events and find peace.

Last year, our hospice teams provided 300 hours of customized care to military veterans in our care. Our teams also conducted 73 veteran pinning ceremonies – special programs which offer honor and dignity to veterans at end of life. A typical veteran pinning ceremony includes the veteran, his or her Veteran-to-Veteran volunteer, the veteran’s family and friends and the hospice team. The veteran pinning ceremony includes the Pledge of Allegiance, a prayer of thanks, the awarding of a veteran service flag pin, the singing of “God Bless America,” a reading of “What is a Veteran” and the presentation of a certificate of recognition.
