HCI Hospice Care Services’ free, educational grief support group, “Understanding Your Grief,” starts Thursday, August 10. The group will be using material from Dr. Alan Wolfelt and the Center for Loss and Life Transition. It will meet at Bright Kavanagh House, located at 3000 Easton Blvd., Des Moines, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evenings for nine weeks.
Participants will receive copies of Dr. Wolfelt’s book “Understanding Your Grief” and “The Understanding Your Grief Journal.” Groups will learn about Dr. Wolfelt’s 10 essential touchstones for finding hope and healing through loss. These touchstones include Dispelling the Misconceptions about Grief, Embracing the Uniqueness of Your Grief and Understanding the Six Needs of Mourning.
The groups are free and open to the public; however space is limited. Therefore, pre-registration is required and is requested by August 4. Contact HCI Hospice Care Services’ local bereavement counselor, Kevin Vryhof, at 515-729-2460 for more information or to register.
